District 50 Lions volunteers finish up beautification project at Highlands Intermediate School in Pearl City (4.17.2021)

Apr 17, 2021

Mahalo to all the community volunteers representing the Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club, Pearl City Lions Club, Chinatown Lions Club, and community friends who helped out this morning at Highlands Intermediate School. Volunteers put on a new, fresh coat of purple paint on the school walkway railings fronting the school, as well as finished up on beautifying the school aquaponics garden facility and grounds.

It was a wonderful and rewarding feeling to be amongst all the volunteers as they worked “as one” to get their work day project duties done. When completed, we all stepped back and could feel a sense of pride that the newly painted railings would bring to the Highlands Intermediate School ohana as they entered the school grounds.

Mahalo to Highlands Intermediate School Principal Amy Martinson, Vice Principal Sara Yoshimura, Vice Principal Gary Kanamori, and Science Teacher Angelo Laskowsky for their support and for always providing supplies, snacks and refreshment to all the volunteers.

Mr. Laskowsky was extremely grateful for the volunteers returning to clean up the aquaponics facility grounds. Volunteers raked up leaves and trimmed branches from the flourishing plants and trees that thrive around the perimeter of the aquaponics garden. Mr. Laskowsky also mentioned that the volunteer’s contribution to the aquaponics garden will bring added inspiration to his science students and their commitment to learning as a part of the aquaponics program.

A special mahalo to Dexter Aoki and the Mana Loa Nimitz Lions Club volunteers for their endless support of the Aiea and Pearl City communities.

Have a great weekend!
