Pearl City High School alumnus David Ige won Hawaii’s gubernatorial race in yesterday’s General Election and will serve as our next Governor while fellow PCHS alumnus Mark Takai defeated Republican opponent Charles Djou to win a seat in the U.S House of Representatives Congressional District 1.
Ige and Takai will be calling Washington Place and Washington D.C. home respectivley as they take the next step in their political careers that will assure them the opportunity to serve and continue to support the needs and welfare of Hawaii's residents and their ohana at the state and national levels.Both Ige and Takai led their opponents in all three print outs reported last night.
Ige, along with running mate and newly elected Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui, picked up 49.45% of votes cast finishing with 180, 790 votes.
Republican candidate and former Lt. Governor Duke Aiona and running mate Elwin Ahu finished runner-up garnering 37.08% of votes cast at 135, 571.
Independent candidate and former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann and running mate Lester Chang finished third picking up 11.71% of votes counted with a total of 42, 828 votes.
The Libertarian candidate team of Jeff Davis and Cynthia Marlin recorded 1.74% of votes cast finishing fourth with 6371 votes.
Democrat candidate Takai defeated Republican challenger Charles Djou by 6,941 votes (93,360 to 86, 419) to win elected office and serve in Congress in the U.S. House Congressional District 1.
