Submitted by the Office of Representative K. Mark Takai:
Elected officials from Aiea and Pearl City will be hosting a community meeting on traffic and transportation issues. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Pearl Ridge Elementary School cafeteria.
Representatives from the State Department of Transportation and the City Department of Transportation Services will be making presentations at the meeting to provide an update on current and upcoming projects impacting the Aiea and Pearl City communities.
Community residents are too familiar with traffic gridlock and know that the roads in their community are one of the most heavily traveled areas on Oahu. Over the past few years, traffic on the highway and roadways has continued to increase as more and more people travel through Central Oahu. Additionally, despite the significant progress of repaving and road repair, people have been affected by lane closures and traffic backups. Not surprisingly, the current work and future projects of these departments greatly impact these communities.
Interested persons are urged to attend this meeting to learn about these projects, ask questions and share concerns. “Residents are encouraged to attend to learn about traffic and transportation projects in and around our community,” said Rep. K. Mark Takai (D-Aiea). “They can express their ideas and have their opinions heard, seriously considered, and incorporated into the action plan,” Takai added.
“No challenge is too big when government and the community come together to identify shared values and work towards common goals," Takai said.
Sponsoring legislators include Senate President-Elect Donna Mercado Kim, Senator David Ige, Representative Aaron Johanson, Representative Gregg Takayama, Representative Roy Takumi, Councilmember Carol Fukunaga, Councilmember Breene Harimoto and Takai.
