Volunteers give Pearl Harbor Bike Path a Face-Lift

The Fourth Annual Pearl Harbor Basin-Bike Path Cleanup swept through our Aiea, Pearl City and Waipahu communities on Saturday, April 17. Volunteers stretched along the 14 mile bike path to pick up rubbish and debris that litters the three communities along the Pearl Harbor Basin.

The cleanup was sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Environmental Services. There were 11 locations along the bike path that were targeted for the cleanup: McGrew Point , Pearl Kai Shopping Center, Best Buy, Neal Blaisdell Park, Hawaiian Electric Company, Lehua Avenue, Leeward Community College, Waipahu High School, Ted Makalena Golf Course, Kapakahi Stream and Pupuole Street Mini Park.

Volunteers that helped cleanup the Pearl City section of the bike path worked along the Pearl Harbor basin from Neal Blaisdell Park through Leeward Community College. Volunteers from the Navy, HECO, Pearl City Lions Club, Mana Loa-Nimitz Lions Club and others picked up rubbish and debris from 8:30am to 10:30am.

The City & County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services provided an informational  session to the volunteers upon check in at 8:00am to go over what to look for, how to properly pick up and dispose of the larger debris items and the cleanup path boundaries along the bike path.

The following organizations partnered with The City & County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services to support the cleanup efforts: City of County of Honolulu Department of Facility Maintenance, Naval Station Pearl Harbor, State of Hawaii Department of Transportation Highways Division, Pearl City Lions Club, Mana Loa-Nimitz Lions Club, Hawaiian Electric Company and HPD District 3 Community Policing.
