I would like to recognize an amazing team of student leaders representing the Rotary Club of Pearlridge sponsored Highlands Intermediate School Interact Leadership Club that poured their heart and souls into making a difference in our community recently.

On Thursday, November 18, 2021, Highlands Intermediate School Interact Leadership club members, who also represent the school’s award winning Student Council, provided two Thank you posters filled with heartfelt messages and artwork for Pali Momi Medical Center Nurses and Nurse Aides as a part of Rotary International’s 2021 Healthcare Heroes project.

The students joined Rotary Club of Pearlridge Interact Clubs from Our Savior Lutheran School and Pearl City High School to create wonderful posters of gratitude and appreciation for the nurses and nurse aides.

630 students from 14 Aiea and Pearl City schools wrote heartfelt Thank you messages and drawings for 490 nurses and 58 nurse aides at Pali Momi Medical Center.

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, Highlands Intermediate Interact Leadership Club members, Interact Club / Student Council advisor Mr. Eric White, and parent volunteers teamed up with Rotary Club of Pearlridge community volunteers led by RCOP Community chairperson Lasar McCabe, to clean and beautify Puuloa Springs which is located between the Pearl Harbor shoreline and the Pearl Harbor Bike Path near Blaisdell Park in Aiea.

Interact tudents set an ambitious goal of filling 36 bags of rubbish collected in the area and exceeded their goal by 3 bags for a total of 39 bags. They also filled dozens of sand bags that were placed along the banks of the Puuloa Springs stream that flows in and out of Pearl Harbor shoreline.

The Rotary Club of Pearlridge is very fortunate for the opportunity to build our RCOP Rotary Interact Leadership Program with outstanding students and advisors representing Highlands Intermediate School, as well as and Pearl City High School and Our Savior Lutheran School.

The strength of student leaders who are engaged in Leadership and Service through their membership in both school Student Council and Interact Clubs programs  have a voice in their community through meaningful service projects.

Each service project that the students are involved in successfully engages the community by making a profound difference in the present while setting their vision for the future through the learning process that will manifest itself in the success of their community for future generations.

Highlands Intermediate Interact Leadership Club Advisor Mr. Eric White

“The four pillars of National Student Council are: Leadership, Voice, Engagement, and Service.  We, the Highlands Student Council and Highlands Intermediate Interact Club, practice and demonstrate all 4 of these virtues with Service being the one that engages the community.

It was so amazing to be able to work with the Rotary Club of Pearlridge in two meaningful activities this month: the Pali Momi Healthcare Heroes Project and the Pearl Harbor Bike Path-Puuloa Springs Clean Up!  It is our hope to continually show our students meaningful Service to the community and to also make a difference where it counts most!”

We are very fortunate and appreciate the opportunity to build our RCOP Rotary Interact Leadership Program with outstanding students and advisors representing Our Savior Lutheran School, Highlands Intermediate School, and Pearl City High School.

The students have been billed as our future leaders, but we at the RCOP identify them as leaders of today who are building their futures of tomorrow, as we all become the beneficiaries of their success from a learning and creative foundation based on a heightened commitment to achieving their education goals and service to their community.

Rotary Interact Leadership Club students truly exemplify Rotary International’s motto of “Service Above Self”. We are very proud of the students and look forward to the future ahead, side by side in the community.
