Pearl City hosted a tough and determined Anuenue football team Friday night at
Bino Neves Stadium on the PCHS campus. Not to take anything away from the Chargers
who fought until the final seconds ran off the game clock. Both teams displayed ground games that attacked each others defenses all night.
Anuenue ball carriers combined for 328 yards on a potent ground attack that backed the Chargers up as well as controlled the clock.
Charger star running back, Ray Cooper had a spectacular performance on the ground rushing for 200 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown. Cooper also had 2 receptions for
21 yards.
Anuenue running back Kanani Armitage put the Na Koa on the scoreboard first on a
5 yard touchdown run with 5:17 left in the 1st quarter. Extra point try failed. Armitage scored again late in the 1st Quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run to make the score 12-0.
2 point conversion attempt failed.
Keli’ikoa Aki scored on a 4 yard touchdown with 10:20 left in the 2nd Quarter to put
Anuenue up 18-0. Anuenue scored on a 2 point conversion attempt to increase their lead to 20-0.
Pearl City put 6 points on the scoreboard in the 2nd Quarter scoring on 46 yard touchdown run by Ray Cooper. Extra point attempt by kicker Tyler Yamanouchi failed.
The Chargers scored their final touchdown with 9:41 left in the 4th Quarter on a 1 yard
touchdown run by QB Isaac Shim. Tyler Yamanouchi’s extra point kick closed the deficit to 20-13.
Anuenue closed the door with a late 4th Quarter, Kekaimana Fernandez 55 yard touchdown run. Extra point conversion was good to make the final score 27-13.
The Chargers fall to 1-4 (1-3 in the OIA White Division) Next up is an away game, Saturday, September 26th against the Bulldogs of Waialua. JV game kicks off at 4:00pm.
