The Pearl City Chargers played inspired volleyball against Mililani on Tuesday sweeping the Trojans 25-19, 25-19. Mililani kept the OIA Red West match up close most of the night but the Chargers dug down deep to pull away for the final points in both sets for the victory. I asked Charger Head Coach Stephanie Shigemasa for the keys to the game.
“I think our serving. Towards the ending in the second set our serving was tough so they were having a little more trouble passing. Their big hitters weren’t being able to hit I guess. Our serving was the key for us.” When asked about Charger impact players for the match, Coach Shigemasa said, “Actually I think everybody. I mean there was nobody who stood out. We were struggling, it was one of those things that we had to just keep plugging away and so I think everybody just hung in there and played well together as a team.”
Pearl City takes on Leilehua on Thursday for their final home game of the season. The Chargers defeated the Mules last week in 3 sets 21- 25, 25-17, and 15-10.
Here are the final stats for top Charger performances:
Tabytha Inong: .500
Nicole Boyer: .308
Tonisha Buford: .263
Didi Gentzler: 3
Tabytha Inong: 3
Reyna Acosta: 9
