The Pearl City Chargers Junior Varsity and Varsity football teams go to battle against the Kaiser Cougars in OIA White Division action this Friday, October 16. The Charger Varsity team is coming off a tough 25-22 overtime loss to Kalaheo last Saturday night.
The Charger Junior Varsity team on the other hand is on a roll. Last weeks 31-6 pounding of Kalaheo complemented their wins over Waialua and Kalani in previous weeks adding to their dominance on the field and scoreboard. The Chargers have out scored their opponents in the last 3 games 116-6. That’s right 116-6. Head Coach Ray Padello stays humble and gives all the credit to his coaching staff and tough play each game from his student athletes.
The annual PCHS Powder Puff Football Championships saw the Seniors defeat a tough and energetic Freshmen team 2-0 in their match up Monday night. The Freshmen hung in there and will definitely be a team to deal with in years to come at PCHS.
In the other match up, the Juniors and Sophomores took their contest into overtime
after regulation play expired. Each team had one possession on offense with one first down. The Sophomores scored first and then held off the Junior offense on their possession for the victory.
I have to say that they may have to rethink the Powder Puff name because the girls showed a pretty good amount of athleticism and talent on the gridiron.
It has been a while since I attended a PCHS Bonfire. Monday night’s barbecue of the Cougar brought back memories (I’m an old guy, PCHS class of ’77). Members of the senior class set the giant hibachi a blaze. It was a lot of fun being out there with the kids.
Okay, let’s get out to PCHS on Friday night and cheer on the Chargers. JV starts at 5:00pm. Varsity to follow 25 minutes after the conclusion of the JV contest.
