Message from the Editor: Aloha Coach Gary Nakamoto!

May 24, 2010 | PC Sports

Aloha Everyone,

Well, the day has come, a little earlier than expected but it's here. Pearl City High School's Varsity Baseball Head Coach, Gary Nakamoto is stepping down. Coach Nakamoto has cited health concerns as the reason for his resignation following his third season as the skipper for the Chargers Championship Varsity Baseball Program.

Gary Nakamoto is the type of coach that if you got the chance to play for him, you were in for an experience that taught you much more than just the fundamentals of the game. He instilled a winning attitude in his players that was based on the philosophy of respect and hard work.

From the youth leagues in Pearl City all the way to the high school level, Gary Nakamoto has spent the last three decades turning boys into men and winning championships along the way.

Coach Nakamoto has led his Chargers to three OIA Championship titles since taking over in 2008 from iconic Pearl City Chargers Head Coach, Mel Seki.

Coach Nakamoto has also captured seven OIA titles and finished as runner-up four times in his 15 year career as the Chargers Junior Varsity baseball head coach.

Coach Nakamoto is well liked and respected by his peers as a leader and a winner.

Those who have had the opportunity to coach under Coach Nakamoto, will take with them as they make their way through the ranks, the knowledge and discipline that defines his legacy.

I would like to personally thank PCHS Athletics Director, Reid Shigemasa and Coach Nakamoto for allowing me the opportunity to record and document the Chargers 2010 Championship season on MyPearlCity.com.

The interviews and photos are now a part of Pearl City Chargers baseball history and will allow online visitors access to Coach Nakamoto's "Legacy of Perfection" while at the helm of both the Chargers Junior Varsity and Varsity Baseball Programs.

Take care Coach. I'm looking forward to catching up with you around the Pearl City ballparks this summer!

Thanks everyone for logging on to MyPearlCity.com and being a part of our online Ohana. Have a great day!
