There was also a special fundraiser held on Saturday for injured Pearl City High School Champion swimmer, Daren Choi who suffered spinal injuries after falling off a rock while sight seeing in Western Samoa on June 28, 2010. Daren had just competed, before the fall, against swimmers from 13 different countries in an international swim meet, coming away with 3 medals.
Volunteers from the Daren Choi Ohana Support Crew, Kamehameha Swim Club and Grace Bible Church Pearlview worked the Dunking Booth, Pie-Throwing Booth, Shave Ice Stand and 1000 Cranes donation table to help raise funds for Daren’s medical expenses.

Volunteers from the Daren Choi Ohana Support Crew, Kamehameha Swim Club and Grace Bible Church Pearlview helped out in the shave ice and cotton candy booths on Saturday.
Grace Bible Church Pearlview donated all the proceeds raised from the Dunking Booth, Pie-Throwing Booth and Shave Ice Booth towards the Daren Choi fund. Youth volunteers from Grace Bible Church Pearlview annually work the two game booths and Shave Ice stand to raise money for their church but decided to donate all proceeds to help out their classmate at Pearl City High School.
Since his injuries suffered in late June, Daren is improving and is able to walk with a cane to get around.
"Daren is improving, He would like to have been here today but wants to thank all of you for your support," said Daren's father, Derrick Choi. "It's over whelming the amount of support for Daren from the community."
