The Pearl City Lady Chargers advanced in the 2010 OIA Red Division Play-Offs on Tuesday with a sweep of the visiting Castle Knights, 25-19, 25-23, 25-22. The 2010 OIA Red Western Champion, Lady Chargers improved their league record to 12-1 while the Knights fell to 6-7.
Pearl City benefited from solid hitting performances in the sweep over Castle from #15 Keani Passi, #7 Kaya Chong and #6 Brandee Chun. After taking sets one and two, the Lady Chargers sat on Aloha Ball in the the third set at 24-20. The Knights fought back winning the next two points to close the deficit to 24-22. Pearl City came back with Chong scoring the final point for the sweep.
Pearl City played without star outside hitter, Tonisha Buford who injured an ankle in practice earlier in the week.
The Lady Chargers move on and will meet OIA East powerhouse, Kahuku (11-2) at McKinley High School on Wednesday. Kahuku defeated Kailua (2-11) in straight sets 25-11, 25-11, 25-7 on Tuesday at Pearl City High School to advance.
The Pearl City vs. Kahuku contest will follow a 5:00pm match up between OIA Red East Champion, Moanalua (12-1) and Kaiser (11-3). At Moanalua High School on Tuesday, Moanalua swept McKinley (5-9), 25-13, 25-13, 25-13 to advance while Kaiser brought out the brooms with a sweep of OIA Red West runner-up Mililani (11-2), 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.
