Pologa pumps in 21 to lead Kaimuki over Pearl City 43-33

The Kaimuki Bulldogs put it all together down the stretch behind a 21 point performance by Alison Pologa to defeat Pearl City 44-33 in the OIA Red Division Girls Varsity Basketball Championship Tournament on Wednesday at the Kaimuki High School gym.

The Chargers and Bulldogs kept the contest relatively close most of the ball game. Kaimuki took a 16-14 lead going into the half. In the 3rd period, Pearl City built a 4 point cushion leading the Bulldogs, 20-16 after Shawna Angle hit a 3 point shot with 5:40 left in the period. Both teams would go back and forth with the Chargers taking a  25-24 lead at the end of the 3rd period.

The Bulldogs were up 29-27 in 4th period when Pearl City's Shay Alterado tied the game at 29-29 with 4:27 left.  Kaimuki came right back scoring on Alison Pologa's lay up to break the tie at 31-29. The Bulldogs pulled away in the last few minutes, outscoring the Chargers 19-8 in the final period.

Kaimuki (9-7) moves on in the tournament with a match-up against Kapolei (14-1) on Friday (1/21) at Kapolei High School. Tip off at 6:00pm.

Pearl City (9-7) travels to Kaiser (11-4) to take on the Lady Cougars for 5th place in the OIA Championship Tournament on Friday (1/21).
