The Momilani Fit Factory students are made up of 3rd and 4th graders led by 3rd grade teacher Mr. Masaru Uchino and 4th grade teacher Ms. Dawn Kanoho. The students train after school on the Momilani Elementary School campus a couple days a week with the objective to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

"This is our second year doing the Fit Factory and 4th Grade teacher Dawn Kanoho has been a huge blessing for the group this year with the added 4th graders," said Uchino. "Last year was only 3rd grade students. We have a total of 34 kids this year and have been training hard twice a week as usual. Later this year, we will be participating in the Honolulu 5K for Kids and the Jamba Juice Banana Man Chase 5K."

The Momilani Fit Factory students were also able to raise funds from the Great Aloha Run Keiki HOPE Run that will go towards the school's Spring Olympics program.

"Our group was able to complete the 1.5 mile Keiki run in 16 min, 50 sec.," said Uchino. "Our group was able to have a total of 34 people register for the event which will net a total of $510 that will be donated back to support our school. When registering our school, I designated the Spring Olympics as the school wide program that would be supported by these funds. We can use the funds to purchase new equipment for use during our school wide Spring Olympics."

The Fit Factory weekly workout schedule was instrumental in preparing the students for the tough 8.15 mile Great Aloha Run course.

"The 8.15 mile GAR was a challenge for the students to complete, but we were able to cross the finish line in 2 hrs. 31 min," said Uchino. "This is including a 16 min stop to use the restrooms after the 2nd mile marker. (LONG line for the porta-potties.) The total amount of money raised by the Fit Factory fundraiser and was donated to the GAR charities this year was $855!!"
