Moanalua makes it to OIA Championship with win over Pearl City

Moanalua earned a trip to the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division Varsity Boys Volleyball Championship with a 25-16, 19-25, 25-12, 25-15 victory over Pearl City last night at McKinley High School.

The Na Menehune improved their undefeated (regular and post season) record to 15-0 with the win over the Chargers who evened their record at 8-8. Moanalua is currently ranked #6 in state wide polls.

Pearl City will face Leilehua for the second time in the double elimination tournament on Tuesday (5/3)  to see who will face Moanalua on Thursday (5/5) for the championship. Pearl City defeated Leilehua earlier in the tournament.

The Na Menehune took the first set 25-16 behind senior outside hitter Richard Harpole who finished the match with 25 kills. In the second set, the Chargers turned it around, neutralizing Harpole at the net and taking the set 25-19.

Harpole and his teammates entered the third set by regaining the intensity from set one. Their attack on the Chargers came from all angles with Harpole leading the way. The Na Menehune overpowered the Chargers 25-12 in the third set and 25-14 in the fourth.

Pearl City's #17 Joseph Hammond had a solid performance for the Chargers with 12 kills.
