Momilani Elementary School ran away with the Male, Female and Combined team titles at the Pearl City High School Elementary Invitational Track Meet held at Edwin "Bino" Neves Stadium on Friday, May 20.
Occasional rain showers drenched the runners and spectators but did not deter from the energy, enthusiasm and level of competition on the track and field. Family, friends and community supporters filled the stands to cheer on the student track athletes.
“It’s fun to see all the students and all the schools coming together with sportsmanship, camaraderie, fellowship and just enjoying each other, said Sheldon Oshio, Pearl City-Waipahu Complex Area Superintendent. “Watching the kid’s faces, win or lose, everyone’s a winner.”
“The most impressive thing to me about tonight was the community coming together where the high school kids came and volunteered their time and if you look up in the stands, one third of them are parents and community members,” said Michael Nakasato, Principal, Pearl City Highlands Elementary School. “They just came in support and that’s a really nice feeling in Pearl City.”
