Nanakuli’s Nunuha delivers a knockout with 11-0 win over Pearl City

Nanakuli eliminated Pearl City from the Hawaii Little League District 7 Majors Championship Tournament played at Whitmore Field in Wahiawa on Sunday, July 3 with an 11-0 victory that ended after four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Nanakuli starting pitcher Mase Nunuha went the distance for the win, shutting out Pearl City over four innings of work. Drake Lee took the loss for Pearl City.

Mase Nunuha went the distance, earning an 11-0 shut out victory over Pearl City.

Nunuha pitched a great game but also had help on offense, starting with a seven run, top of the second inning that put Pearl City in a deep hole early on. The inning was highlighted by a Grand Slam blast from  #4 Ronson Damas to center field with one out. Nanakuli scored seven runs on four hits in the inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Nanakuli added four more runs to take an 11-0 lead. #33 Kona Alvarado led off the inning with an infield single. Nanakuli put runners on first and second after #12 DJ Stephens got on base with an infield grounder that was bobbled at third base. Runners moved up to second and third on a pass ball at the plate. Next batter, #52 Spunky Ekau hit a 2 RBI double to left field that scored Alvarado from third and Stephens from second. Ekau moved to third base on a pass ball at the plate. Ronson Damas popped out to second base for the first out of the inning. Next batter, Mase Nunuha hit an RBI single to left field that scored Ekau from third. Damas advanced to second base on another pass ball at the plate. Next batter, #2 Shandon Laa struck out for out number two. #34 Shay Hoohuli hit a pop up to shallow center field that was dropped. Damas scored on the play. Shevy Kanakaole grounded out for the third out to end the inning. Nanakuli scored four runs on five hits in the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Pearl City had no runs, no hits and left one runner on base to end the game after four complete due to the 10-run mercy rule.
