Pearl City Hongwanji Mission celebrates the 2011 Bon Dance season

Aug 13, 2011 | PC Community

The Pearl City Hongwanji Mission held their annual Bon Dance over the weekend with hundreds of residents filling the Pearl City Hongwanji Mission grounds to participate and enjoy the festivities.

Reverend Hiromi Kawaji served as a speaker on both Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 for the Hatsu-Bon English Service. The Bon Dance followed each service at around 7:00pm.

Pearl City residents and visitors enjoyed a variety booths that included; Andagi Booth, Game Booth, Craft Booth, Country Store Booth (baked goods, preserves, tsukemono, etc.), Food Booth (BBQ sticks, hamburgers, shave ice, plate lunches, waffle dogs, chili bowl, fried noodles, drinks).

It was a great time as the Pearl City Hongwanji Mission continued the Buddhist tradition of honoring those who have passed on during the year as well as a time to reflect on our own lives.

Mahalo to Reverend Hiromi Kawaji, and the Pearl City Hongwanji Mission for opening their doors and hearts each year to bring our Pearl City community together to celebrate the Japanese culture.
