Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Officers issued traffic citations to motorists traveling on Hoomalu Street in Pearl City during the CTAP – Community Traffic Awareness Program sign waving event on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.
Community volunteers joined Rep. K. Mark Takai (District 34 – Aiea, Pearl City) and HPD Officers from the Pearl City Community Policing Team to bring awareness to motorists to slow down and drive safely while traveling through Pearl City on Hoomalu Street.
HPD Officers were busy issuing traffic citations on the corner of Hoomalu and Ho'okanike Streets to motorists for speeding, seat belt and cell phone use violations during the hour long CTAP event that ran from 4:00pm – 5:00pm.
This was the third CTAP event held on Hoomalu Street in Pearl City urging motorists to slow down.
“The overall purpose of this project is to raise safe driving awareness and it has been successful in other communities to curb the number of motorists speeding on heavily traveled streets,” said Takai.
“I have made being a part of the Hoomalu CTAP program a priority because communities need CTAP to demonstrate that we care,” said Myrtle Nyuha, former board member of the Pearl City Neighborhood Board. “Motorists are reminded that driving requires your full attention.”
