Chargers take bite out of the Bulldogs 34-6

The Pearl City Chargers moved a step closer to a shot at an OIA White Division Varsity Football title Friday night with a 34-6 victory over the visiting Waialua Bulldogs.

The Chargers who improved to 5-0, dominated the winless Bulldogs (0-6) on both offense and defense. Pearl City out gained Waialua in net offense 420-145.

Pearl City's Kaimi Paredes had another stellar performance as the Chargers starting QB completing 11 of 19 for 172 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also rushed 8 times for 72 yards. Paredes leads the OIA White Division with 15 touchdown passes.

Paredes spread the wealth around through the air to his receiving core tossing touchdown passes to Kelson Laboy, David Laranol, Adrian Fonoimoana-Hall and Shawn Lopez. Laboy finished with 3 catches for 48 yards. Laranol caught 4 passes for 42 yards. Fonoimoana-Hall added 1 catch for 42 yards and Lopez pulled in 2 receptions for 25 yards.

On the ground Pearl City's Noah Derby carried the ball 10 times for 111 yards. Rakeel McMillian rushed 4 times for 24 yards and 1 touchdown.

Waialua Bulldog QB Christopher Gervacio passed for 70 yards, completing 3 of 11 with 1 interception. Gervacio replaced Bulldog starting QB Taleon Lele due to an injury late in the 2nd Qtr.

Game Scoring Summary:

Pearl City's David Laranol scored on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Kaimi Paredes with 1:35 remaining in the 1st Qtr. Kelson Laboy rushed in the 2 point conversion. Pearl City took a 8-0 lead over Waialua.

The Chargers scored again at 2:31 in the 2nd Qtr. on a 42 yard touchdown pass from Paredes to Adrian Fonoimoana-Hall. Extra point attempt failed. Pearl City took a 14-0 lead into halftime.

With 35 seconds remaining in the 3rd Qtr. the Chargers scored on a 9 yard touchdown pass from Paredes to Shawn Lopez. Pearl City attempted a 2 point conversion that failed. Pearl City increased their lead to 20-0 entering the 4th Qtr.

In the 4th Qtr. the Chargers scored on a 6 yard run by Rakeel McMillian with 7:50 remaining in the period. The Chargers attempted a 2 point conversion that failed. Pearl City led 26-0.

Pearl City's Melvin Schmidt picked off a Bulldog pass at 7:37 in the 4th Qtr. giving the Chargers the ball on Waialua's 21 yard line. On the next play, Paredes connected with Laboy on a 21 yard touchdown pass. Laboy converted the 2 point conversion attempt and the Chargers increased their lead to 34-0.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with 12 seconds on the clock on an 8 yard touchdown run by Bulldog QB Christopher Gervacio. The extra point attempt failed.

Pearl City will play host to Waipahu on Saturday, October 1. Junior Varsity match up is schedued to kick off at 2:00pm with the Varsity to follow. Saturday's Varsity contest will be a meeting between two unbeaten teams at 5-0 in the OIA White Division. Kaimuki sits in first place at 6-0. Pearl City will meet Kaimuki on October 15 at home. It will be the last regular season game for both teams.
