Lady Chargers blow past Lady Hurricanes 10-0

On Tuesday, the Pearl City Lady Chargers used the 4th, 5th and 6th innings to pile up 10 runs and force the 10 run mercy rule in their 10-0 victory over the visiting Kapolei Lady Hurricanes in OIA Red West Junior Varsity Softball.

It was a totally different and unexpected outcome with regard to the final score compared to this past Saturday's match up between the two schools with Pearl City coming out on top in 11 innings, 8-6.

In a dual of freshman hurlers, Kapolei's Emilee Guillermo took to the mound to face Pearl City ace Angel Maikui-Jenks. This past Saturday, Maikui-Jenks entered the game in the 5th inning earning the win in relief. On Tuesday, Maikui-Junks pitched six complete innings for the 10-0 win.

The Lady Chargers got things going on Tuesday in the bottom of the 4th inning after putting two runners on base with consecutive singles by Robi Kami and Makana Kekaulike. Kami scored the games first run from third base on an a ground out by Shaynee Sanford. Kekaulike advanced to third base on the play. Next batter Naomi Hernandez-Hama stroked a single and reached second base after a pick off attempt at third base went past the third baseman scoring Kekaulike from third. Pearl City took a 2-0 lead after four complete innings.

The Lady Chargers caught fire in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring 5 runs to take a commanding 7-0 lead. The first run of the inning came off of Makana Kekaulike's RBI single that scored Anuhea Lindsey-Rapoza from second base. Robi Kami advanced from first base to third base on the play. Kekaulike moved up to second base on a pass ball at the plate. Next batter Shaynee Sanford hit a 2 RBI single to centerfield with two outs that scored Kami from third and Kekaulike from second. The Lady Chargers loaded the bases with two outs and scored two more runs on a 2 RBI single by Angel Maikui-Jenks.

In the bottom of the 6th inning the Lady Chargers closed the door on the Lady Hurricanes starting with a solo home run shot by Anuhea Lindsey-Rapoza to right centerfield. Robi Kami scored from third base on an RBI single by Naomi Hernandez-Hama. Makana Kekaulike moved to third base from second on the play. Pearl City took a 9-0 lead. Lady Hurricanes pitcher, Emilee Guillermo walked Natalie Kang to load the bases. Next batter Angel Maikui-Jenks got hit by a Guillermo pitch that scored Kekaulike from third base and ended the ball game due to the 10 run mercy rule.

Pearl City improved their OIA Red Western Division record to 7-3. Kapolei is 6-4 in league play.
