Free dictionaries make their way to Palisades Elementary School

Community volunteers representing the Rotary Club of Pearlridge visited Palisades Elementary School in Pearl City on Thursday to deliver free dictionaries to the school's third grade students.

Thursday's dictionary presentation to Palisades Elementary School represents Rotary International's Dictionary 5000 Project that supports third grade students with free dictionaries each school year through the generosity of Rotary Chapter's in their communities.

Rotarian volunteers helped students in Mr. Leonard Villanueva class navigate through their new dictionaries. Students participated in exercises that included looking up new words as well as learning their definitions.

The third grade students were also introduced to Rotary International's "Four-Way Test" Principles for the students to study and practice.

"Four-Way Test"

1.  Is it the truth;
2.  Is it fair to all concerned,
3.  Will it bring good will and better friendships
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned.

At the end of the school year, one boy and one girl who best represents the principals of the Four-Way Test, will receive a $100.00 savings bond donated by the Rotary Club of Pearlridge.

So far, the following schools have received or are on schedule to receive free dictionaries from the Rotary Club of Pearlridge during the 2011-2012 school year:

Momilani Elementary (Pearl City), Lehua Elementary (Pearl City), Palisades Elementary (Pearl City), Waiau Elementary (Pearl City), Webling Elementary (Aiea).
