On a typical hot and sunny Saturday afternoon on the North Shore, the Pearl City Chargers girls and boys varsity cross country teams braved the elements to bring home third place team finishes in the Oahu Interscholastic Associations Varsity Cross Country Championships held at Waialua High School.

Leilehua captured both the girls and boys team titles. The Mules also won top individual titles with Elliot Estrada winning the boys title finishing the 3-mile course in 16 minutes 9.7 seconds. Katelyn LaCamera brought home the girls title at the same distance in 20 minutes 15.53 seconds.

The top 50 boys and top 51 girls from Saturday's OIA Championships qualified for the HHSAA State Cross Country Championships on October 29, 2011 in Kapalua, Maui.

The Pearl City boys team placed four out of five runners in the top 50. Two runners finished in the top ten with Paul Enriquez, who won the 2011 individual OIA Junior Varsity title last week and who was also on the 2011 OIA Junior Varsity Championship team placing third with a time of 16:49.13. Teammate Richard Bergstrom finishing seventh at 17:02.90. Reece Teramoto and Zachary Villarmia also finished in the top 50.

The Pearl City girls team place all six runners in the top 51 with Maile Shigemasa, the 2011 OIA Western Division Champion, finishing in 12th place followed by Kaile Eli, Adrienne Jean Sylva, Jacqueline Chong, Jaymie Lonzanida and Renee Lum.
