Ewa Beach will take on Waipio today for the 2012 District 7 Hawaii Little League 9-10 year old Championship after defeating Pearl City 3-2 on Sunday at Puuloa Field in Ewa Beach.

Ewa Beach (3-1) lost to Waipio (3-0) in the second round of the tournament on Thursday, June 28 and will have to defeat Waipio two games in a row to win the  championship. First pitch is set for 3:00pm today. If Waipio wins, they will be crowned champions. If Ewa Beach wins, the two teams will play again on Tuesday at 3:00pm for the championship.

On Sunday, Ewa Beach and Pearl City needed a win to reach the championship final against Waipio. Both teams suffered their only loss of the tournament to Waipio. It wasn't going to be an easy task knowing that it will take three wins in a row to be the 2012 tourney champions.

Ewa Beach got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Micah Harper off of Pearl City starting pitcher Blaise Torres that scored Leo Ha'o from third base.

Pearl City came back in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead scoring their first run to tie the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Chase Sampaio off of Ewa Beach relief pitcher Maka Malama that scored Micah Obara from third base. Koamana Rosa scored from third base on a pass ball at home plate to put Pearl City ahead 2-1.

Ewa Beach answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Micah Harper drove in Leo Ha'o from first base on a hard hit ball down the right field line that tied the game at 2-2. Harper made it to third base on the play. Pearl City made a pitching change bringing in Makana Canyon in relief of Torres. Ewa Beach scored the winning run on a pass ball at the plate that brought in Harper from third base. Ewa Beach took a 3-2 lead which would stand as the final score.

Pearl City had a last chance at bat in the top of the sixth inning but could not respond.

Congratulations to Ewa Beach for reaching the championship and also to our Pearl City team for a great tournament!
