2012 Pearl City Summer Obon Dance Schedule

The 2012 Summer Obon Dance schedule got under way in June and will continue through the month of August in many communities throughout Oahu. Pearl City has two bon dance events on the summer calendar with the first event being held by the Rissho Kosei-kai Hawaii Dharma Center on July 13 and July 14 and second at the Pearl City Hongwanji Mission on August 10 and August 11.

Obon season is a very meaningful time to remember our loved ones who have passed away before us, and time to reflect on our lives.

In Jodo Shinshu Buddhist tradition, Obon is called "Kangi-e" which means "Gathering of Joy" in the Light of Compassion of Amida Buddha.

Bon Odori Dance is the way of expressing our appreciation and joy of life in the Buddha's compassion.

The 2012 Rissho Kosei-kai Hawaii Dharma Center Bon Dance and Obon Festival will feature ancestor worship, food booths: BBQ plate, oden, andagi, mochi, roasted corn, shave ice, ice cream, & children games.
