Pearl City captures 2012 Junior Little League Hawaii District 7 Championship

Congratulations to the new 2012 Junior Little League Hawaii District 7 Champions from Pearl City who defeated Waipio 12-2 on Sunday at Hans L 'Orange Park in Waipahu.

Sunday's championship game ended in the bottom of the sixth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. Pearl City drove across six runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning for the 12-2 win and the championship title. The inning was highlighted by Colby Hirano's 3-RBI triple that put Pearl City up 9-2.

Pearl City also put up five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit and take a 5-2 lead over Waipio.

Waipio scored solo runs in the top of the first and fourth innings.

Pearl City's Matt Yokota earned the win allowing two runs on seven hits in six complete innings.

Waipio sent Ezra Heleski, Ricky Costa and Brysen Yoshii to the mound against Pearl City.

It was the second win of the tournament for Pearl City against Waipio. Pearl City defeated Waipio in a tough 6-3 opening round tournament win on Saturday.

Pearl City moves on to the state tournament that runs from Thursday, July 19 through Sunday, July 22 at Ala Wai and Halawa Fields.
