Pearl City Ballroom Dance Club keeping step with community service

Jul 28, 2012 | PC Community

When it comes to serving their community, the Pearl City Ballroom Dance Club has all the right moves. Club members volunteer countless hours in our Pearl City community each year helping out with projects that benefit residents from keiki to kupuna.

Most recently, club members organized and participated in a window washing project at Manana Elementary School. Volunteering at the school is a way of giving back and showing their appreciation to Principal Bryan Loo and the school administration for allowing the club to utilize the school cafeteria for their weekly evening ballroom dance classes and practices.

Members of the Pearl City Ballroom Dance Club also hold an annual school supply drive at Manana Elementary School during the months of July and August to collect supplies for students in need.

Club members make their way into the classroom to read to the students, once a week, from September through May as a part of the "Reading Group Project".

In October, club members reach out once again to volunteer in an annual Pearl City community clean up.

Coming up on Saturday, August 4, the club will enter into competition at "The Palladium" at the Ala Wai Recreation Center in Waikiki.

Tickets are on sale for the event at $25.00. Please contact Shirley Ota at  456-2129 for more information.

MyPearlCity.com is delighted to announce that the Pearl City Ballroom Dance Club, which represents the Pearl City Chapter of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association, will be featured in our PC Heart & Soul segment in August.

Mahalo to Shirley and Herb Ota for their contributions to this article.
