Pearl City drops to 0-2 after 17-7 loss to Kaiser

Pearl City suffered their second loss in a row on Friday 17-7, on the road, against the Kaiser Cougars. The Chargers start off the season 0-2 while the Cougars evened their Oahu Interscholastic Association White Division regular season record at 1-1.

Kaiser QB Makana Lyman had a great game for the Cougars completing 23 of 41 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Lyman also threw one interception.

Destin Moss caught 8 passes for 76 yards to lead the Cougars. Christian Clapp pulled in four receptions for 63 yards and one touchdown.

Brock Teixeira completed 14 of 39 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown for the Chargers. Teixeira also threw two interceptions.

Daicorri Briscoe came up big for the Chargers hauling in 6 catches for 130 yards and one touchdown.

Kaiser opened scoring on an 83 yard punt return by Kai Gonda with 4:18 left in the first quarter. Sai Clayton converted the extra point kick to put the Cougars up 7-0.

The Cougars went up 13-0 on with 9:25 on the clock in the second quarter on a 45 yard touchdown reception from Lyman to Christian Clapp. The extra point kick by Clayton gave Kaiser a 14-0 lead over Pearl City.

Clayton increased the Cougar lead to 17-0 on a 29 yard field with 5:07 remaining in the second quarter. Kaiser took a 17-0 lead into the half.

The Chargers got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a 91 yard touchdown reception from Teixeira to Daicorri Briscoe. The extra point kick by Derek Chang made the score 17-7 which would hold up as the final score.

Friday's victory over the Chargers was the first win for Cougars first year head coach Rich Miano who is a Kaiser High alumnus and also a former assistant head coach for the University of Hawaii Warriors football team.

David Hallums who is also in his first year as the head coach for the Chargers is looking for his first win of the season. Hallums is a Pearl City High School alumnus and also played for the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warrior basketball team.

The Chargers return home to Edwin "Bino" Neves Stadium to play Nanakuli on Friday, August 31. The junior varsity kick off is set for 5:00pm with the varsity contest to follow 25 minutes after the conclusion of the junior varsity game.
