Seventh inning homeruns power Kapolei over Pearl City 8-7

The Kapolei Lady Hurricanes powered their way on Saturday to an 8-7 road win over the Pearl City Lady Chargers to sweep a two game series and improve their OIA Red Western Division Junior Varsity Softball record to 5-1. Pearl City evened their record at 2-2.

Makana Myer and Sophie Sahagun hit a pair of homeruns in the top of the seventh inning to take a 8-7 lead after trailing the Lady Chargers 7-5. Meyer hit a lead off solo homerun shot followed by Sahagun's game winning 2-run homerun to left field.

Pearl City found themselves down 5-1 after one complete inning but chipped away at the Kapolei lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a 2-RBI double by Ana Cabato to pull within two runs at 5-3. The Lady Chargers tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a 2-run homerun by Natalie Kang. Angel Maikui-Jenks hit a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Lady Chargers up 7-5.

The Lady Hurricanes 3-run top of the seventh inning led by Myers and Sahagun set Kapolei up for the win.

Kapolei's Emilee Guillermo shut down Pearl City batters in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Kayla Higa started for the Lady Hurricanes before being relieved by Emilee Guillermo in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Angel Maikui-Jenks pitched into the seventh inning before being relieved by Kristin Frost with Pearl City leading 7-6.

Pearl City returns to the softball diamond to face Waipahu at home on Thursday, September 13. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.

Emilee Guillermo shut down Pearl City in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 8-7 Kapolei win.
