Pearl City blows past Waialua 47-8

Pearl City moved above .500 for the first time this season with a 47-8 blowout of Waialua on Friday in Oahu Interscholastic Association White Division Varsity Football played at Waialua High School.

Pearl City improved to 4-3 in league play while Waialua remained winless at 7-0.

It was the fourth win in a row for the Chargers, after starting out 0-3, that the 35 point mercy rule was implemented against an opponent in the second half.

Pearl City QB Brock Teixeria had another solid performance for the Chargers adding three touchdown tosses for a league leading total of 20 for the season.

Teixeira completed 14 of 18 for 365 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

On the receiving end, Daicorri Briscoe led the Chargers with six catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns. Briscoe also scored on a second quarter 65 yard punt return. Tanner Tokunaga finished with 5 catches for 157 yards and one touchdown. Isaac Amorin caught 3 passes for 43 yards.

David Laranol led the Chargers rushing game with 66 yards on three carries.

Pearl City overpowered Waialua for a net offense of 514-74.

On defense the Chargers picked off Waialua QB's three times with two of the interceptions going in for scores by Kordell Va'a and Kainoa Kahilihiwa.

Bryson Galdeira grabbed an INT on the Waialua 32 yard line with 10:58 in the second quarter.

Scoring Summary:

Pearl City opened scoring on an 89 yard touchdown pass from Teixeira to Briscoe with 6:33 on the clock in the first period.

Blake Cooper scored the Chargers second touchdown on a five yard touchdown run with a 11:55 on the clock in the second quarter. Pearl City led 13-0 after missing the PAT.

Teixeira connected with Briscoe on a 12 yard touchdown pass with 8:58 in the second quarter that increased the Chargers lead to 19-0. Extra point attempt failed.

Briscoe got inside the end zone for the third time on a 65 yard punt return with 6:03 on the clock in the second quarter to put the Chargers up 25-0. Blake Cooper pounded in the two point conversion attempt to put the Chargers firmly in control at 27-0.

In the third quarter, the Chargers defense scored two touchdowns off of interceptions with first one coming off a 25 yard interception for a touchdown by Kainoa Kahilihiwa with 9:35 on the clock. Pearl City led 34-0 after a successful PAT.

Kordell Va'a scored on a 20 yard interception at 8:30 in the third period putting Pearl City up 40-0. The Chargers missed the two point conversion attempt.

The Chargers final touchdown came on a 90 yard touchdown reception from Brock Teixeira to Tanner Tokunaga with 4:50 on the clock in the third quarter. Pearl City led 47-0 after converting the PAT.

Waialua got on the scoreboard on a one yard run by Bulldog running back Alapati Scanlan with 1:09 remaining in the fourth period. Scanlan also scored the two point conversion attempt on a plunge into the end zone. Waialua trailed Pearl City 47-8.

Pearl City returns home to face Kalani on Friday, October 5 with the Junior Varsity scheduled to kick off at 5:00pm. The Varsity will follow 25 minutes after the conclusion of the Junior Varsity contest.
