Filipino cooking featured at Urban Garden Center in Pearl City

The Urban Garden Center in Pearl City featured, "Filipino Cooking Using Unusual Fruits and Vegetables" during "Second Saturday at the Garden" on Saturday, October 13, 2012.

Urban Garden Center Volunteer, Julia Cabatu presented, "Filipino Cooking Using Unusual Fruits and Vegetables" with cooking demonstrations that used fresh herbs and produce.

Dishes included: sari sari, chicken marungay, banana and jackfruit lumpia, layered cassava dessert, kamote and katuday salad, guayabano (soursop) chiller.

Samples from the dishes were available for tasting.

There was also a Filipino recipe cookbook, "Favorite Recipes of Hawaii Filipinas and Friends" that was available for the public to purchase. Proceeds went  towards funding the Filipino Women's League 2012-2013 Scholarship Program.

Second Saturday at the Garden featured demonstrations from Urban Garden Center Master Gardeners who helped the public with tips on how to care for their plants and home gardens. Plants were also available for sale to the public.

The UGC Master Gardeners also conducted a very interesting demonstration in a section of the UGC garden that produces compost with the help of live worms.

In full bloom on Saturday was the beautiful UGC Rose Garden that sits along the newly dedicated Peace Garden Pathway. The Honolulu Rose Society welcomed visitors to walk amongst, and enjoy the many varieties of world class rose plants.
