Veterans Day 2012 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

The Oahu Veterans Council (OVC) presented the 93rd Veterans Day Commemoration on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

"The OVC purpose is to preserve the memory and pride of all veterans who honorably served our U.S. Armed Forces and great nation, to advocate for veterans earned rights and benefits and to promote and foster understanding and unity amongst veterans, civic organizations and the community."

Gene Castagnetti Col (Ret) USMC – Director, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific opened the ceremony and served as the master of ceremonies throughout the morning. Colonel Castagnetti had the privilege of introducing Key Note Speaker, The Honorable Daniel K. Akaka, United States Senator from Hawaii. Senator Akaka served as the Senior Member of the Senate Committee on Veteran's Affairs from 2007-2011.

The Honorable Max Cleland, Secretary, American Battle Monuments Commission was invited to attend as Sunday's Distinguished Speaker. Secretary Cleland received the Silver Star for gallantry in combat after being severely wounded while serving in Vietnam in 1968. Max Cleland has served his country as a distinguished public servant for the past 50 years and is also a former U.S. Senator.

The 93rd Veterans Day Commemoration recognized and honored those who served in the following wars and conflicts:

WWI, WWII

Korea

Vietnam

Cold War

Gulf Wars

Afghanistan

Global War on Terrorism

The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific exists today as a testament to one rising above courage.

Fallen warrior,

lifted spirit,

honored soul.
