Last night, the Pearl City Lady Chargers junior varsity basketball team picked up their first win of the regular season 23-19, on the road, against Kapolei at the Lady Hurricanes home gym.
The Lady Chargers, who represent the OIA White West Division, brought down the Lady Hurricanes, who represent the stronger OIA Red West Division, in a come from behind thriller that was well worth the price of admission.
Late in the game, Pearl City's Tiarre Ortiz dropped in two points to put the Lady Chargers in front 19-18 with 1:55 on the clock in the fourth period. Charity Hollingsworth dropped in two points with 1:21 on the clock to increase the Lady Chargers lead over the Lady Hurricanes to 21-18. Kapolei cut the lead to 21-19 on a free throw with :39 on the clock. Pearl City's Kayelah Arakaki sealed the win for the Lady Chargers after converting two technical free throws with :06 remaining on the game.
Tiarre Ortiz scored a game high 11 points for the Lady Chargers followed by Kayelah Arakaki with 6 points.
Keilah Mone led the Lady Hurricanes with 6 points.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Friday, January 4, at home against the Nanakuli Lady Golden Hawks.
Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
