Pearl City shuts out Aiea 5-0 to end regular season

The Pearl City Chargers finished out their regular season in the OIA Red Western Division with a 5-0 shut win over Aiea on Saturday at the Na Ali'i home field.

The Chargers finished the regular season at 8-4 while the Na Ali'i came in at 5-7 in league play.

Kamalu Neal earned a save for the Chargers in relief of Sean Milan who pitched two innings before leaving the mound with some sort of strain. Milan moved out to right field for the rest of the game.

Neal pitched five solid innings for the Chargers allowing no runs on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Milan who earned the win, allowed no runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Neal also came through at the plate hitting 2-2 with three RBI.

Jared Alcantra took the loss for the Na Ali'i. Alcantra pitched four innings while allowing two runs on three hits with no strikeouts and seven walks.

Jansen Kudaishi and Dylan Madamba pitched in relief for the Na Ali'i.

The Chargers move on to next week's OIA Red Division Championship Playoffs and currently share second place with Waipahu at 8-4 in the OIA Red Western Division standings. The two teams split their regular season series and will flip a coin on Monday to decide who finishes in second place and earns a first round bye in the tournament.

Top 3

Shaye Higa ripped a triple into deep center field to lead off the top of the inning. Dane Kaneshiro drove in Higa from third base on a sac fly to right field. Pearl City took a 1-0 lead. Next batter Jason Komoda grounded out to the shortstop for the first out. Tanner Tokunaga walked. Tanner moved up to second base on a steal. Colby Hirano walked putting runners on first and second with two outs. Next batter Kamalu Neal walked to load the bases. Matt Tsutomi hit a line drive to the shortstop for the third out. The Chargers left the bases loaded to end the inning.

Jason Komoda led off the top of the inning with a single into the gap in left-center field. Aiea made a pitching change bringing in Jansen Kudaishi in relief of Jared Alcantra with no outs and a runner on first base. Tanner Tokunaga stepped up to the plate and smashed a Kudaishi pitch deep into right field that was first ruled a home run but later changed  to a  ground rule double. Komoda advanced to third base on the play. Colby Hirano walked to load the bases. Kamalu Neal stroked a two RBI single that scored Komoda from third base and Tokunaga from second. Hirano advanced to third base with no outs. Isaiah Aribal came into the game as courtesy runner for Neal at first base. Aribal moved up to second base on a steal. Matt Tsutomi hit an RBI single into center field that scored Hirano from third base. Aiea made a pitching change bringing in Dylan Madamba in relief of Kudaishi. Tsutomi advanced to second base on a steal. Pearl City had runners on second and third. Sean Milan hit a grounder to the third baseman who went to first for the out. The first baseman fired the ball home taking out Aribal who tried to score from third. Kyle Tom flied out for the third out.

Pearl City 4-0.

Shaye Higa walked to lead off the top of the inning. Lane Asuncion hit a ground rule double down the third base line. Higa advanced to third base. Jason Komoda grounded out to the second baseman for the first out. Next batter Tanner Tokunaga was intentionally walked to load the bases. Colby Hirano flied out to right field for the second out. Kamalu Neal hit an RBI single into right field scoring  Ryne Tokunaga who came into the game as courtesy runner for Shaye Higa at third base. Pearl City took a 5-0 lead . Next batter Nick Au flied out for the final out.

Kamalu Neal pitched five innings in relief for the Chargers allowing no runs

on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Neal also went 2-2 at the plate

with three RBI.

Jansen Kudaishi came into the game in relief of Aiea starting pitcher Jared

Alcantra in the top of the fifth inning. Kudaishi allowed two runs on three hits

with one walk before being relieved by Dylan Madamba in the top of the fifth

inning.

Dylan Madamba relieved Jansen Kudaishi in the fifth inning. Madamba

allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout and two walks in three complete

innings.

Tanner Tokunaga went 2-2 at the plate that included a ground rule double to

right field in the top of the fifth inning. The hit was first ruled a homerun but after

a protest by the Aiea coaching staff the call was changed to a double. Tokunaga

would later  score in the inning on Kamalu Neal's two RBI single.
