Pearl City beats Kaiser 1-0 in eight innings to clinch a state tourney berth

The Pearl City Chargers beat the visiting Kaiser Cougars 1-0 in eight innings on Friday in a semifinal match-up for fifth place in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red Division Baseball Championship Tournament. With win, Pearl City secured at least a sixth place finish in the OIA Red Division Baseball Championship Tournament and clinched a state tournament berth. The top six finishers in the OIA tournament advance to the state tournament.

Kamalu Neal pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Chargers. Neal allowed no runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk in eight innings of work for the Chargers.

Kelan Yoshioka took the loss for the Cougars. Yoshioka pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Pearl City will travel to Waipahu High School on Saturday, April 27 to take on the Marauders for fifth place in the OIA Red Division Baseball Championship Tournament. Kaiser did not qualify for the state tournament

Campbell and Mililani representing the OIA Western Division will play for the OIA Red Division Championship tonight at Hans L 'Orange Field in Waipahu. Campbell defeated Kaliua 3-0 while Mililani got past Leilehua 5-4 in Friday's semifinal match-ups played at Hans L 'Orange Field.

Kailua and Leilehua will play for third place on Saturday at Kailua High School.

Matt Tsutomi got on first base after hitting a one out single to right field. Ryne Tokunaga entered the game as a courtesy runner for Tsutomi at first base. Next batter Kamalu Neal stroked a single into right field advancing Tokunaga to third base. Kyle Tom punched a bunt down the first base line. Tokunga broke for home and scored the winning run as the throw to the plate went off the Kaiser catcher.
