It was quite a night for Pearl City High School Chargers Athletics on Saturday, especially for the girls sports as the Lady Chargers captured the OIA Varsity Girls Track & Field Championships at Mililani High School while the Lady Chargers Judo Team repeated as the HHSAA State Girls Judo Team Champions at Stan Sheriff Center on the campus of the University of Hawaii.
The Lady Chargers turned in possibly the best performances ever recorded for the girls track program with outstanding finishes throughout the competition on Saturday. The Lady Chargers scored 103 points to runner-up Radford High School who compiled a total of 93 points.
Diamond Briscoe shined for the Lady Chargers winning the 100, 200, and 400 Meter Dash races and was a member of the 4X100 and 4X400 Meter Relay Championship teams. Alexia Blalock placed second in the 100 Meter Dash, first as a member of the 4X100 Meter Relay Team, first in the Triple Jump, and fifth in the Long Jump. Maile Shigemasa ran away from the field winning both the 1500 and 3000 Meter Races and also ran on the winning 4X400 Meter Relay Team.
The Charger Boys finished in sixth place with 30 points. Daicorri Briscoe brought home the gold in the Boys 4×100 Meter Relay and also won gold in the Long Jump competition. Isaac Amorin captured the Triple Jump Championship.
Congratulations to the Chargers and their Head Coaches Donaldo Hopper and Todd Nishida as well as the entire coaching staff and supporters.
The Chargers move on to the Island Movers Hawaii Track & Field State Championships scheduled for May 10 & 11 at Mililani High School.
