Pearl City beats Kainalu 12-1 in opening round of Hawaii State Little League 10-11 Championships

Pearl City beat Kainalu 12-1 in the opening round of the Hawaii State Little League 10-11 Championship Tournament played on Friday, July 12 at Aikahi Park in Kailua.The game was called after four complete innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Pearl City's held Kainalu to no hits behind the arms of starting pitcher Sheldon Yamura and reliever Makana Canyon. Yamura pitched 3 and 1/3 innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Makana Canyon pitched 2/3 of of the botttom of the fourth inning with two strikeouts and no walks.

Nicholas Pujalet and William Eddy pitched for Kainalu. Pujalet pitched 3 and 1/3 innings allowing twelve runs on ten hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Eddy pitched 2/3 ofm the fourth inning in relief of Pujalet allowing no runs and no hits.

Sheldon Yamura powered a solo homerun in the top of the second inning for Pearl City.

Pearl City scored 12 runs on 11 hits in the ball game.

Pearl City moves on in the winners bracket of the double elimination state championship tournament and will play the winner of Friday's Ewa Beach/Kailua game today at 4:00pm.

Kainalu will have to fight their way out of the loser's bracket to advance in the state championship tournament.

Koamana Rosa led off the top of the first inning with a single and moved to second base on the play. Kainalu starting pitcher Nicholas Pujalet got the next batter on strikes for the first out. Brandon Sarae hit a ground rule double to right field driving in Rosa from second base for the first run of the ball game. Next batter Sheldon Yamura hit a one out RBI triple scoring Sarae from second base. Next batter
Blaise Torres hit a grounder that scored Yamura from third base. Jaydon Tomas entered the game as a pinch runner for Torres at first base. Ethan Kitamura got on base with bunt single moving Tomas to second base. Next batter Chase Sampaio flied out for the second out. RJ Kami stepped up to the plate and hit a two RBI double to left field scoring Tomas and Kitamura. Pearl City took a 5-0 lead. Makana Canyon struck out for the third out.

Pearl City scored five runs on six hits with one runner left on base.

Koamana Rosa led off the inning with a bloop single to center field. Next batter Chasen Goshi popped out to first base for the first out. Rosa advanced to second base with a steal and moved to third base on a pass ball at the plate. Brandon Sarae hit a ball that got pass the left fielder that scored Rosa from third and allowed Sarae to make it around the bases to score on the play. Pearl City took a 7-0 lead. Next batter Sheldon Yamura stroked a solo hoimerun over the left field fence to increase Pearl City's lead to 8-0. Next batter struck out for the second out. Next batter reached first base on a grounder. Chase Sampaio hit a grounder putting runners on first and third base. Next batter grounded out to the shortstop for the third out.

Pearl City scored three runs on two hits with two runners left on base.

Enoby Tin Hin led off the inning with a walk. Tin Hin advanced to second base on pass ball at the plate. Sheldon Yamura struck out the next batter. Tin Hin took third base on another pass ball at the plate with one out. Tin Hin scored on a bunt attempt by Logan Aweau that got past the catcher. Yamura got the next two batters to ground out to end the inning.

Kainalu scored one run on no hits with no runners left on base.

Pearl City 11-1

RJ Kami led off the innng with a hard hit grounder that got past the shortstop. Kami reached second base on the play. Makana Canyon flied out for the first out. Kainalu made a pitching change bringing William Eddy in relief of Nicholas Pujalet who moved to third base. Kami advanced to third on a steal and scored from third base on a pass ball at the plate. Eddy put down the next two batters to end the
inning.

Pearl City scored one run on one hit with no runners left on base.
