City, State and Federal Agencies Partner for Inaugural Ready 2 React Emergency Preparedness Event at Pearlridge Center.

More than 25 City, State, Federal and non-government agencies will converge at Pearlridge Center on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for the inaugural Ready 2 React emergency preparedness event.

Ready 2 React will bring disaster and emergency preparedness experts together face-to-face with the public to help prepare residents for any emergency or disaster that may affect Hawaii.

“Public safety is the highest priority for any mayor.  That is why this project between City, State, Federal and nonprofit agencies and the community reflects a commitment to ensuring public safety in the event of a disaster,” said Mayor Kirk Caldwell.  “This is an opportunity for residents to speak directly with key emergency management stakeholders and learn tips to keep their families safe.  Self empowerment is the first line of defense when a disaster occurs.”

The public will have an opportunity to speak with emergency professionals at the Center Courts of Pearlridge Uptown and Downtown to discuss preparedness planning and see the latest in disaster training, emergency supplies and amateur radio communications.  In addition, children will enjoy the emergency vehicles displayed in the Toys R Us parking lot and the parking area between Ross Dress for Less and T.J. Maxx.

Some of the organizations at the center courts will be; The American Red Cross, Civil Air Patrol, the City Department of Emergency Management, Honolulu Police and Fire Departments, Hawaii State Civil Defense, National Weather Service,  National Disaster Preparedness Training Center,  NOAA Coastal Storms Program, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, United States Coast Guard and many others.  Emergency vehicles parked outside on display include the Civil Air Patrol and Navy Air Museum glider, the HPD mobile command vehicle, HFD ladder truck, American Red Cross emergency-response vehicle and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s interactive robot.

“Ready 2 React is an outstanding example of the public and private sectors partnering together to help our residents become better prepared and disaster resilient,” said Councilmember Breene Harimoto.  “I encourage everyone to stop by and learn how to prepare themselves, their families and their communities for any potential disaster or emergency.”

Ready 2 React is scheduled for Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pearlridge Center in `Aiea.  Informational displays will be set up at both the Uptown and Downtown Center Courts, and emergency response vehicles will be located at the Toys R Us parking lot and the parking area between Ross Dress for Less and T.J. Maxx.

Ready 2 React is presented by Pearlridge Center, the `Aiea and Pearl City area elected officials, the City and County of Honolulu, and the City Department of Emergency Management.
