Pearl City whips Cape Breton, Canada 11-1 at Senior Little League World Series in Bangor, Maine

The Pearl City Seniors is off to a good start in the Little League World Series picking up their second win of the tournament over Cape Breton Little League from Canada 11-1. Pearl City came out aggressive today scoring a run from second base in the first inning off of a sacrifice bunt by Kawaiola Takemura, plating Colby Hirano who got on with a lead off walk.

Pearl City tacked on another run in the 5th off of a sac fly into left fly by Sanyo Lo. It was a two run ball game up to the 6th inning when Pearl City broke it open with a 8 run inning. They added another run in the 7th off of a sac fly by Matthew Tsutomi, scoring Colby Hirano.

Pearl City's starting pitcher, Chevy Sumile, threw 5 innings of scoreless baseball, recording the win while picking up 8 strike outs in the process.

Pearl City's record now stands at 2 and 0 in the Little League World Series, and will be playing Asia Pacific (Philippines) at 8 pm (2 pm Hawaii time). GO PEARL CITY!

Pearl City Chargers Tokunaga, Akau, Neal to play in American Legion World Series with Northwest Champion Waipahu.

The Waipahu American Legion Team won their Northwest Regional Tournament and is headed to the World Series in Shelby, North Carolina.  Some of the players are from Pearl City High School: 

Tanner Tokunaga, Reid Akau & Kamalu Neal

Waipahu will be representing the Northwest and will play Mid Atlantic in the opening round of the American Legion World Series on Friday, August 16 with first pitch scheduled for 5pm (EST), 11am (HST).

Waipahu is the 4 time Hawaii State Champion
  • 2010 Regional 3rd place (in West Regional in Las Vegas, NV)
  • 2011 Regional Champion (now in Northwest Regional in Billings, MT), and appearance at WS in Shelby, North Carolina (0-2 in WS)
  • 2012 Regional runner up (Northwest Regional in Billings, MT)
  • 2013 Regional Champion (Northwest Regional in Eugene, OR), headed to WS

This club has had a string of PCHS players since 2010:  Chevas Numata, Isaac Shim, Kai Kealoha, Tanner Tokunaga, Sumi Pruett, Brian Iida, Austin Bali, Austin Bolosan, Sheldon Milan, Gage Mueller & my son, Kory Nakamura.  They also have players from Moanalua, Mid Pac & Waipahu.
