Pearl City brings down Kalaheo 49-8 in OIA White Division Varsity Football

If there was any question with regard to the talent of the 2013 Pearl City Chargers varsity football team, it was answered last night as the Chargers overpowered Kalaheo 49-8 on the Mustangs Homecoming Night at Kailua High School Field. The win puts Pearl City above .500 at 2-1 in league play. Kalaheo pulls even at 2-2.

Pearl City ran a well balanced attack on offense gaining 195 yards on the ground and 161 yards through the air.

Kalaheo rushed for 121 yards and passed for 21 yards.

Pearl City QB Jordan Taamu completed 5 of 12 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Pearl City's Timothy Rivera led all receivers with 4 catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Leon Dupio had one reception for 55 yards and a touchdown. 

Justin Dupio led the ground game with 98 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.

Kalaheo's Sonny Meredith led the Mustang's ground game rushing for 47 yards on 9 carries with one touchdown.

The Pearl City defense continues to improve each week forcing turnovers that plagued the Mustangs in their battle with the hard hitting and aggressive Chargers defensive squad.  Pearl City took advantage of an opening kick off fumble recovery that resulting in the Chargers scoring on Jordan Fuamatu's 4 yard touchdown run that put the Chargers up 6-0 with 8:44 on the clock in the first quarter.

The Chargers also scored on two turnovers that sealed the win late in the fourth quarter on a 70 yard interception return for a touchdown by Kristian Vaana-Kikuyama and a 7 yard touchdown run on a fumble recovery by Kyler Mano.

Kalaheo scored their only touchdown in the third quarter on a 1 yard touchdown run by Mustang's QB Sonny Meredith. Kalaheo picked up two more points on a safety in the fourth quarter.

Pearl City returns to action on Friday, September 13 at home against Anuenue.

Kalaheo has a Bye week.

in the first quarter after Dominic Maneafiga tacked on the PAT.
