Community volunteers will come together this Saturday at the University of Hawai'i's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Urban Garden Center in Pearl City, to string together flowers that will create the Aloha Peace lei in celebration of Peace Day Hawaii 2013.
When completed, the Aloha Peace lei will serve to connect Hawai'i peacemakers from Hawaii to China. The lei-making will run from 3:00pm – 4:15pm. Event organizers are inviting the public to join in and be a part of creating the Aloha Peace lei as well as enjoy a free family day amongst the many varieties of plants and gardens, educational materials, lei-making, and handprint pledges for peace activities.
There will also be exhibits by the Mastergardener program, MA'O Organic Farms, Kokua Foundation, and Hawaii Farm to School Network.
Live performances will include the Burmese Buddhist Monk Blessing, Korean Drummers Thunder Hawai'i, multi-cultural Lion Dancers, Infinity Chant & signing bowls, Master Gardener Hula & Band Hui and Nia Dancing.
The Honolulu Rose Society will receive the UGC Peace Garden Dedication Recognition Award for their dedication and hard work in creating, growing, and maintaining the many beautiful verities of roses at the UGC Peace Rose Garden located along the Peace Garden Pathway.
Congratulations to Honolulu Rose Society (HRS) President Myrna Cariaga, past HRS President Bob Speer and the wonderfully talented group of HRS members for their hard work and love for roses.
2013 Peace Day Hawai’i Award Recipient, Ramsay Taum will also be recognized on Saturday during the Peace Day Hawaii celebration at the Urban Garden Center.
The Peace Day Hawai'i celebration at the UGC in Pearl City is scheduled from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
