KIAWE PIZZA

Kiawe Pizza, owners, Joy and Cliff Womack

What are your specialties?

We make Artisan style pizzas and we do, in different places, sweets," said Joy Womack. "We make Butter crusted fruit tarts, fresh fruit tarts with fresh whip cream and sometimeS we’ll do breakfast, frittata and French toast.

How long have you been in the pizza and sweets business?

"We’ve been in business for about a year and a half now and we’re totally mobile. We do two farmers markets, this one here at Leeward Community College, and we do the Hawaii Kai Farmer's Market on Saturday's. We also do events like Eat the Street and Discover Kakaako. We also do catering and school events and community events like Taste of Waipahu."

What motivated you to start your Kiawe Pizza business here in Hawaii?

“We used to be painting contractors for 35 years," said Cliff Womack. “We wanted to try something different, we just love pizza. I like to play with fire and she likes to bake, so it made a good combination. We’ve been doing it for a year and a half and seem to really like it. We’re doing what we love.

How has your experience been so far as a vendor at the Leeward Farmer's Market?

"It’s really good, we really like it," Cliff said. "The vendors are friendly and all the customers are friendly. We hope it stay's around for a long time."

Any special thanks for helping get your business to where it is today?

I would like to thank especially my mother-in law for letting us move into her house and take over her carport," Cliff said with a great appreciation for the opportunity given to Joy and himself.  "We put the oven in there and we pulled her car out. She has really helped us out. She helps us with cashiering, and working. She’s 87 years old. Her name is Alice Saito and she has helped us out quite a bit. If it wasn’t for her we wouldn’t be able to do this. We moved up from Seattle a year and half ago. We invaded her space. It’s been a lot of fun with her help and we’re happy to be here."
