The Kauai Red Raiders used home field advantage to defeat the Pearl City Chargers 13-7 last night in the first round of the HHSAA Division II State Football Championship Tournament played at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue.

The Red Raiders (9-0) came into the contest as the Kauai Interscholastic Association Champion and #3 seed. Pearl City (7-4) landed in Kauai as the Oahu Interscholastic Association White Division runner-up.

Kauai moves on to the semifinals and will match up with 6-time DII state champion and #2 seed Iolani on Saturday, November 16, 2:00pm at Kozuki Stadium on the campus of Iolani School. Pearl City was eliminated from the championship tournament.

During last night's game, both teams had to deal with the rain and a soggy field conditions that had an effect on both the Red Raiders and Chargers offensive productivity and ability to put points on the scoreboard.

Besides the weather conditions, tough defensive play also played a major factor in the yards gained and scoring output for the Red Raiders and Chargers. The Red Raiders picked off Charger QB's four times in the game. The Pearl City defense came up big stopping Kauai scoring  drives on fourth down and also put pressure on the Red Raiders kicking game on extra points and field goal attempts.

Pearl City outgained Kauai to 235-202 in net offense. Pearl City doubled up on Kauai 133-63 in net passing yardage. Kauai won the ground game 139-102 in net rushing.
