Holiday spirit shines through at rainy Pearl City Christmas Parade

Dec 2, 2013 | PC Community

Rain drenched the Pearl City Christmas Parade route on Sunday, but didn't stop the diehard parade participants and parade watchers who came out to support and make the event a success. Several groups who signed up to participate in the Marching and Floats Divisions opted out of the parade because of the stormy weather.

In all fairness, if you're reading this article, and are one of the groups that stayed at home to keep warm and dry, you're probably finding this hard to believe that the parade actually took place. Well, it did with the help from the man above. Just before the parade commenced at 4:00pm from Momilani Elementary School, the rain subsided allowing the parade to get underway and make it all the way to the Pearl City Shopping Center before it came down pretty heavy during the awards ceremony.

“I’m so proud of our parade goers. Our parade folks are dedicated and they’ve been in the rain, and have marched through sun and thick clouds of water. Today we’re just really proud for the ones who hung through this whole thing.  The ones who did, I think had a great time. It’s just such a wonderful thing to see young kids growing up with a sense of responsibility to the community and we are thankful for that. Thanks to the Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association for sponsoring this fabulous time. Also thanks to the Pearl City High School Project Grad, they’re the ones out there in the rain making sure the whole parade came together.  We would to thank all the folks at McDonald’s, Annette and her team have provided sandwiches for everybody who was in the parade after that long, wet, winding road down from Momilani Elementary.  Even though Pearl City Highlands Elementary School who organized the food drive, was unable to participate, several people along the route brought out food to donate to Hawaii Foodbank.  Marchers picked the donations up along the way and placed them in the HECO truck following the fabulous HECO float. Thanks to the Honolulu Police Department, every year they’re out there keeping us safe.”  …Sheri Rolf, Rolf Advertising

“It’s so neat that a community can get together and do this every year. Hat’s off to the Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association for doing all this, and everybody who participated in the parade too, and who came out and watched. It’s great to see the PCHS Band come down the road, and then Santa and all the kids." …Dave Rolf, Rolf Advertising

Mahalo to all the participants and residents who braved the rain to be a part of this year's Pearl City Christmas Parade sponsored by the Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association. Also, thank you to the Pearl City Shopping Center Merchants Association for their generous support of the parade which included Pearl City Shopping Center gift certificates and trophies for the groups that placed in the Marching and Floats Divisions. Also, for their donation of $1000 to support Pearl City High School's Project Graduation program.

Mahalo to Dave and Sheri Rolf from Rolf Advertising for their excellent public relations expertise and participation in the parade and awards ceremony.

And finally, to the PCHS Project Graduation crew for all your hard work!
