MyPearlCity.com is proud to congratulate and feature Pearl City High School's 2013 Hawaii State Champions in Boys and Girls Bowling and Girls Air Riflery.

On Wednesday, December 11, 2013, Honolulu City Councilman Breene Harimoto presented the champions with Honorary Certificates in front of the full City Council at Honolulu Hale.

James Hayashi, Head Coach PCHS Boys Bowling

"This is the first time being here so the kids are kind of excited and happy. They didn't expect this kind of recognition and certificate award ceremony.  I think they deserve it after the past four years of state tournaments"

Millie Gomes, Head Coach PCHS Girls Bowling

"It is such a great honor to be honored by the city and county because we've never had this before. The girls are excited, and everybody is excited to be here today. This is a great opportunity to come to city hall and see the Christmas decorations and just to be honored by the people who run our city. It's such a great accomplishment for the girls. I am so proud of them for winning the OIA's and the state championship. They don't really know what they did. They just want to bowl, and they get along so well."

Lester Aranaydo, Head Coach PCHS Girls & Boys Air Riflery

"I'm so proud of our girls. This is great being here today and being honored by the city council and Councilman Harimoto. The girls worked really hard to win their first state championship."

A very special mahalo to Councilman Harimoto, his staff, and the City Council for recognizing the Chargers accomplishments in reaching the pinnacle of high school athletic competition in their respective sports.

Also, mahalo to the parents and supporters for being the driving force behind their student/athletes success.

The Pearl City community thanks you!

CONGRATULATING THE PEARL CITY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BOWLING TEAM ON WINNING THE BILLY TEES HAWAII BOWLING 2013 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Winning a championship in any sport is a remarkable accomplishment in and of itself.  To repeat as champion and to “three-peat” puts a team in a league of its own.  Entering the 2013 season as the three-time team state bowling champions, expectations were high for the Pearl City High School Chargers Boys Bowling Team to win another championship and accomplish a feat never before seen in Hawaii high school bowling history—a four-time championship.

The Pearl City High School Chargers Boys Bowling Team has long been one of the top performing teams in the state.  As repeat champions the past three years, the Chargers entered this season as the favorites to take the title yet again.  Completing the regular season in first place, the boys then went on to win the Oahu Interscholastic Association Championship (OIA) and looked forward to the state championships and a date with destiny.

On November 1, 2013 at the Hickam Bowling Center the team dominated the state tournament, finishing with a team score of 8748, 709 pins higher than the second-placed team, winning the 2013 Billy Tees Hawaii Bowling State Championship.  With this win the Chargers not only accomplished the “Triple Crown” by winning the regular season, OIA title, and State Championship, but also made history with the “Grand Slam” of bowling—by becoming Hawaii’s first ever four-time bowling team champion.

CONGRATULATING THE PEARL CITY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS AIR RIFLERY TEAM ON WINNING THE 2013 CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM AIR RIFLERY CHAMPIONSHIP

The Pearl City High School Chargers Girls Air Riflery Team has long been recognized as one of the top performing teams in Hawaii.  Over the years the team has consistently placed in the top five and placed third in the state tournament in 2012, yet a championship eluded them.  Coming into the 2013 season the team was projected to again finish third, or even as high as second, in the state tournament.  However, the girls wanted to prove otherwise and set their sights squarely on winning a state championship.

In air riflery competitors use pump-action or air cartridge rifles to shoot at targets.  Scores are derived from shooting in three positions—prone, standing, and kneeling.  This is a sport that requires a steady hand, dead aim, and nerves of steel.

During the regular season the Chargers went undefeated as the Western Division Champions and captured the attention of its competitors when they again won the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Championship for the third time in a row.  In the state tournament on October 29, 2013, at Neal S. Blaisdell Center, the team’s total score of 2099 garnered their first state title and completed the “Triple Crown” of the sport by winning the regular season title, OIA Championship, and State Championship.  Additionally, the team made history by becoming the first team from the OIA to ever win the State Championship.

The 2013 Girls Charger Air Riflery roster is comprised of the following players:

Jennifer Loui*
Ashley Somera*
Kristi Takaki*
Danielle Tanabe
Kiara-Lin Wasano
