Shovels, rakes, garden hoes, paint brushes, and gloves; Oh my! On Saturday, March 29th, more than 50 volunteers made up of American Savings employees, family members and their friends came out in force to Our Lady of Good Counsel School to show their commitment; not only to giving back to the school community; but as a way of investing in the future of the students. Even through the deluge of rain, the helpers removed weeds and unwanted vewgetation, planted new ground cover and foliage, gathered and bagged trash and debris; repainted the four-square and hopscotch area; and just gave the school’s property a total “makeover”. The ASB “Seeds of Service” project is a yearly bank-wide initiative that began in 2006. Since then, it has become a state-wide venture, with projects on Oahu, Kaua’i, Maui, Moloka’i, and the island of Hawai’i. It encourages employees to team up with local schools and non-profit organizations, donating their time to help with landscaping, cleaning, restoration, and with other necessary neighborhood needs.

OLGC School’s faculty, staff, students and their family know the parable of the “Good Samaritan” and this is reflected in many of their ventures that they participate in such as food drives for the Food Bank and our church pantry; Pennies for Patients collections; Jump Rope for Heart activities; the American Cancer Society Making Strides Walk-a-Thon; just to name a few. They are known for their generosity, compassion, charity, and demonstrate active “Corporal Works of Mercy”. Everyone at OLGC agree that ASB is very dedicated to helping our school prosper and grow, and the children are thankful for all of their hard work, saying “It’s nice being on the receiving end this time!”
