Manana Elementary students receive Pearlridge Rotary Good Citizen Awards

Manana Elementary School third graders Keela Chung and Rylan Ganeko were the first recipients of the 2014 Rotary Club of Pearlridge Dictionary 5000 Good Citizen Awards that were presented on Friday in a ceremony attended by the entire third grade class and their teachers in the school cafeteria.

Friday's Good Citizen Awards at Manana Elementary is the first of 12 elementary schools in Pearl City and Aiea that the Rotary Club of Pearlridge will be presenting $50.00 cash awards to one boy and one girl from each school who best exemplifies the principals of Rotary International's FOUR-WAY TEST.

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Earlier in the school year, Pearlridge Rotarians distributed over 700 free dictionaries to third grade students and their teachers to the following 12 schools:

Lehua Elementary, Manana Elementary, Momilani Elementary, Palisades Elementary, Pearl City Elementary, Pearl City Highlands Elementary, Waiau Elementary, Alvah Scott Elementary, Gus Webling Elementary, Pearl Ridge Elementary, Our Savior Elementary, and St. Elizabeth School.

The FOUR-WAY TEST was attached to the inside cover of each dictionary for the students to follow throughout the school year. The best boy and girl students were selected by their third grade teachers.

The Rotary Club of Pearlridge sponsors the dictionaries and cash awards annually as a part of Rotary International's Dictionary 5000 Project.

Congratulations to Keela and Rylan!
