Troop 75 Eagle Scout Project digs in at Momilani Dog Park construction

Boy Scouts from Troop 75 in Pearl City came together on Saturday to work on completing the infrastructure for the Pearl City Foundation Momilani Dog Park located at the Momilani Community Center in Pearl City.

Troop 75 Scouts, Scout Leaders, and their ohana joined other community volunteers to work on Phase 2 of the Momilani Dog Park construction project which was a part of Troop 75's Sean Murray's Eagle Scout project.

Work on Saturday consisted of constructing concrete slabs for the dog park entrance and exit gates and water station area. The volunteers also dug fence line post holes, constructed dog park benches, and painted paws on trash can receptacles around the dog park.

In July of 2013, Troop 75 Eagle Scout candidate Austin Morishita coordinated the construction of the Momilani Community Center's marquee signage as well as the construction of the Momilani Dog Park sign in Phase 1 of the dog park project.

"Almost a year ago my friend Austin (Morishita) did a project that kind of started the dog park here, but it wasn't finished yet, so we had to put in some cement slabs and fence hole posts so we could put up a fence so the dogs don't run all over the place," said Sean Murray. "I think the dog park will get a lot of use because the area has a lot dogs. This will be the only dog park in Pearl City."

Murray is a recent graduate of Moanalua High School's Class of 2014. He has also earned all his merit badges required to reach the rank of Eagle Scout and only need's to complete his Eagle Scout project write-up to attain the Boy Scouts highest honor.

"I've had all my merit badges that are required for Eagle Scout for a while so pretty much all I need to do is finish the write-up for my project and schedule a board of review for my Eagle Scout rank," Murray said. "It feels great to be where I am because I've been working on becoming an Eagle Scout since I was eleven or twelve. It's a great thing to do. I would like to thank my parents for helping me out a lot and driving me to the meetings. Also, to everyone in the troop for making it fun, and to Mr. Harimoto for giving me this project."

Mahalo to Sean and his fellow Troop 75 Scouts and support team for their efforts along with the help of the many community volunteers and Pearl City Foundation Executive Director Mr. Breene Harimoto and his staff for moving one big step closer to the much anticipated grand opening of the Momilani Dog Park.

Through your hard work, dedication, and vision, the dog park will serve to bring together our community of dog lovers and their pets, while enjoying the company of their neighbors and new friends they will meet and mingle with while spending time at the park.

This is the dog park that you built for all to enjoy! Mahalo!
