District 7 Majors Little League Tourney: Opening Round – Waipio over Pearl City 6-1

Waipio advanced in the winners bracket of 2014 District 7 Hawaii Little League Majors Division Tournament with a 6-1 opening round win over Pearl City on Friday, June 27 at Pride Field in Kapolei.

Waipio jumped on Pearl City in the top of the second inning scoring five runs on three hits to take an early 5-0 lead. Pearl City got on the scoreboard with a single run in the bottom of the third inning. Waipio added another run to go up 6-1 which held up as the final score.

Tanner Moran earned the opening round win for Waipio. Jaydon Tomas got the start for Pearl City. Makana Canyon pitched in relief for Pearl City.

Waipio moves on to today's quarterfinals at 9:00am (opponent TBA).

Nanakuli and Ewa will play in today's doubleheader tournament quarterfinals at 12:00pm.

Pearl City will face the loser of the Nanakuli / Ewa game on Sunday, June 29 at 9:00am. The loser will be eliminated from the double elimination formatted tournament.
