Pearl City over Kona Coast 5-4 in 50/70 Hawaii State Little League Tourney

Pearl City beat Kona Coast 5-4 in the opening round of the 2014 D7 50/70 Intermediate Hawaii Little League State Tournament on Monday at Pride Field in Kapolei.

Pearl City got on the scoreboard in the bottom of first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Kona Coast came back and tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning. Pearl City regained the lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring a single run to go up 2-1. Kona Coast put together a two run rally in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. After a scoreless fourth inning, Pearl City once again regained the lead at 4-3 after scoring  two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pearl City added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning.Kona Coast scored one run in the top of the seventh inning to close within one run at 5-4.

Pearl City's Caleb Young earned the win for Pearl City in 6 2/3 innings of work. Carter Hirano recorded the final out of the game in relief of Young in the top of the seventh inning.

Toby Estrella got the start for Kona Coast.

Pearl City moves on to play Ewa Beach Little League on Tuesday, July 1 at Pride Field with first pitch scheduled for 12:00pm. Kona Coast will play the loser of the Pearl City/Ewa Beach game on Wednesday, July 2 at 12:00pm.
