Community volunteers from the Rotary Club of Pearlridge conducted their annual School Supply Fund Drive on Sunday, July 13 at the Pearl City Shopping Center. Rotary Club of Pearlridge President Greg Arakaki along with Board members; Lasar McCabe, Linda Tsark, Ralph Portmore, Tony Lorenzo, and myself Barry Villamil, volunteered in two shifts from 10am-12pm and 12pm- 2pm to collect the much needed school supplies and monetary donations.
The annual School Supply Fund Drive supports students in need at selected elementary schools in both the Aiea and Pearl City School District Complexes. Sunday's school supply drive directly benefitted students at Aiea Elementary, Waimalu Elementary, Lehua Elementary, and Pearl City Elementary.
The Pearlridge Rotarians manned a donation table on Sunday near Foodland Supermarket on the mauka side of the shopping center. A school supply wish list was provided by each of the four elementary schools. Rotarians solicited donations from Pearl City Shopping Center patrons and they obliged, generously, with school supplies purchased from shopping center merchants. Monetary donations also made its way into the cash donation collection kitty.
The Rotary Club of Pearlridge, and its membership, is a very dedicated group of volunteer supportera of our Aiea and Pearl City schools through the organization’s annual community service and educational outreach programs. This year, community service chair-chairs Lasar McCabe and Linda Tsark are off to a great start planning, executing, and delivering projects that provide the necessary tools and financial assistance for our students so that they may have the best opportunity to excel academically while learning the value of community service. The students become a direct beneficiary from an organization that truly cares about their needs and future needs.
